Corporate Highlights

Woods Hole Group proudly announces that Elise Leduc completed Wetland Delineator Training in June of 2015.

Elise completed a Basic Wetland Delineator Training course in June covering the use of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineation Manual. The course was taught by Ralph Tiner and the Institute for Wetland & Environmental Education and Research, Inc. (http://wetlanded.com/) and covered plant identification, hydric soil recognition and wetland delineation methods. The training also covered the Northcentral and Northeast Regional Supplement to the Corps Manual, which includes all of New York and New England. As a result, Woods Hole Group is excited to expand our in-house services to now include wetland delineation work. Congratulations, Elise!

New Faces

Allisa Dalpe

Woods Hole Group was proud to welcome Allisa Dalpe to the Falmouth Office this summer as an intern. Allisa reported to Leslie Fields and Dave Walsh. Born and raised in Falmouth, Allisa is currently a rising senior at Connecticut College majoring in physics with a minor in Mathematics and Environmental Studies. She also is the lacrosse goalie. Good luck in the new school year Allisa and we hope to see you next summer.


Kyle Olejniczak

Woods Hole Group is proud to welcome Kyle Olejniczak to the Falmouth Office. Kyle will be reporting to Tara Marden as Coastal Scientist. Kyle comes to Woods Hole Group from Bucks County Pennsylvania and graduated from California State University Monterey Bay with a MS in Applied Marine and Watershed Science and his BS from Florida Institute of Technology in Oceanography.


Brittany Hoffnagle

Woods Hole Group is proud to welcome to the staff Brittany Hoffnagle. Brittany is Environmental Scientist reporting to Joe Famely. Brittany comes to us from York, Pennsylvania and graduated from Coastal Carolina University with a M.S. in Coastal Marine and Wetland Studies and a B.S. in Biology from Millersville University.


Mara Orescanin

Additionally, Woods Hole Group is proud to welcome Mara Orescanin to the Falmouth Office. Mara will be reporting to Kirk Bosma as a Coastal and Ocean Engineer. Mara comes to Woods Hole Group after successfully defending her Ph.D. in Ocean and Mechanical Engineering through the MIT/WHOI Joint Program in Oceanography. She also has MS degrees in Geology and Mechanical Engineering from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a BA in Physics from Carleton College.

EBC

EBC 2015 Annual Meeting and EBEE Awards Celebration - Newton, MA - June 18, 2015.

The EBC Awards Celebration was attended by Robert Hamilton and Jerome Cura.

Each year, the Environmental Business Council of New England (EBC) recognizes companies, organizations and individuals for outstanding environmental / energy accomplishments in the promotion of a sustainable, clean environment through the EBEE Awards. The EBEE Awards are presented at the EBC’s Annual Award Celebration, held annually in June.

NSBPA Conference on New England Coastal Issues

First International Conference on Surface Transportation System Resilience to Climate Change & Extreme Weather - Washington, DC - September 16-18, 2015.

Presenting: Kirk Bosma, Senior Coastal Engineer

The conference will provide transportation professionals with information on emerging best practices and state of the art research results on how to adapt surface transportation networks to the potential impacts of climate change and extreme weather events. The conference will examine cost-effective and resilient decision making by State DOTs, MPOs, transit and other transportation agencies in planning and programming, capital improvements, and maintenance and operations.

ASBPA Coastal Conference

ASBPA National Coastal Conference: Broadening Coastal Perspectives - New Orleans, LA - October 14-16, 2015

Presenting: Lee Weishar, Senior Scientist, and Tara Marden, Coastal Geologist

ASBPA is the nation’s first organization to promote science-based policies for the preservation of coastal areas. The theme of the 2015 conference is “Broadening Coastal Perspectives”. The national coastal conference will provide an opportunity for all coastal stakeholders to learn together and develop collaborative networks and resources to promote best management practices to maintain and improve the health of our coasts.


The Annual MTS Houston BBQ - Houston, TX - October 29, 2015.

The 2015 Barbecue will be hosted by Thrustmaster of Texas, Inc. at its dedicated thruster manufacturing facility. In addition to refreshments, a wonderful barbecue dinner, exhibits and social networking, there will also be door prizes and a silent auction. This is a great event and we expect several hundred participants. (Approximately 800 people attended last year's event).

RelayforLife

Nadine Sweeney coordinated and participated in the Annual Upper Cape Relay for Life, sponsored by the American Cancer Society on June 19, 2015.

FalmouthCommodores

Woods Hole Group was the Corporate Sponsor for the Commodores game on Saturday, June 11, 2015. The event was kicked off with the first pitches being thrown by Avery Johnsen and Jack Collins. The weather was amazing and Falmouth won…go Commodores!

Look forward to seeing everyone again in 2016!


Luke Sabella continued his ride this year in the 2015 Pan-mass Challenge on August 1st. So proud of Luke and all the riders!


Thank you Horsley Witten Group for challenging the Woods Hole Group to the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge this Fall. We gladly accepted and participated in the challenge on September 16th. To help keep such an amazing cause moving forward, we challenged Coastal Engineering Co. of Orleans, MA and they participated too. Thank you everyone for participating.



COASTSWEEP

Woods Hole Group will host a COASTSWEEP beach clean-up at Town Neck Beach in Sandwich, MA again this year on Saturday, October 17, 2015.

The cleanup begins at 9am and typically goes until noon. If you are interested in participating, please contact Catherine Morey.

The clean-up is part of the COASTWEEP program, the Commonwealth’s annual coastal cleanup program organized by the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management and the Urban Harbors Institute of the University of Massachusetts Boston. .
